XMG EXCLUSIVE. You are hearing this here first. Grammy nominated, multi platinum Houston producer Mr. Lee just put the finishing touches on the brand new Pimp C “3 Way Freak” record featuring Lil Wayne, and XMG Hip Hop has the first 30 seconds before anybody else on the internet.
Mr. Lee called us up personally and invited XMG to come shoot this. DanielGotSkillz pulled up to the studio, sat in on the mastering session and got the cameras rolling while the record was getting its final polish. What you are watching above is straight from the room. No leak, no rip, no middle man.
Real talk, hearing Pimp C’s voice come through those monitors on a new Mr. Lee beat is something else. Chad Butler has been gone since December 2007 and every unreleased verse from the UGK legend is Texas history. This one is heavy.
About Pimp C “3 Way Freak”
Mr. Lee flips Leon Haywood’s 1975 classic “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You,” the same record Dr. Dre used for “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” and lays in a little Mint Condition “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” on top. Pure Southern soul, exactly the lane Pimp C lived in. Sweet Jones handles the hook and first verse and Weezy comes in on the second, closing it out with a “rest in peace Pimp C.”
“3 Way Freak” is the first look at Long Live The Pimp, the new posthumous Pimp C album dropping later this year on Mass Appeal Records. Mr. Lee and Juicy J are co executive producing the project alongside the Pimp C estate, with Mr. Lee handling most of the production. Expect the same Port Arthur to Houston sound Pimp C built with Bun B on UGK classics like Ridin’ Dirty and Underground Kingz: live bass, church keys and that country rap tunes bounce nobody has been able to copy.
Why Pimp C 3 Way Freak Matters For Houston
Houston has been waiting on this. Since Pimp C passed, the city has held on to every scrap of unreleased music, and a Mr. Lee produced record with a Lil Wayne feature is the biggest Pimp C moment in years. Wayne has been loud about UGK being his favorite group since the Hot Boys days, and you can hear it in the way he rides this beat. Mr. Lee: Houston Royalty Behind The Boards
If you know Houston rap, you know Mr. Lee’s work even if you never saw his name. He came up as an in house producer at Rap-A-Lot Records and has racked up nine platinum albums, six gold albums and singles on the radio for thirteen straight years.
Credits include 2Pac and the Outlawz (“Black Jesus”), Scarface (My Homies and Last of a Dying Breed), Paul Wall’s The Peoples Champ, Bun B, Z-Ro, Slim Thug, Devin the Dude, Jeezy, Jay Z and Mary J. Blige. He is the man behind “Get Throwed” with Bun B, Pimp C, Z-Ro, Jay Z and Jeezy, one of the most quoted Houston anthems ever made, and his history with Pimp C goes back to the Pimpalation days.
