Offset is two weeks out from his next album, and he brought Don Toliver along for the preview. “Every Night” dropped October 9, and it is built on one of the most recognizable R&B records of the 90s: Jodeci’s 1995 slow jam “Freek’n You.”
The Breakdown
The record opens with JoJo Hailey’s vocals straight from the original before producer Jaasu, who has worked with Don Toliver, Yeat and Vict0ny, keeps the melody intact and drops heavy drums and distorted synths under it. DeVante Swing of Jodeci gets a songwriting credit.
Offset spends his verse on a woman he can’t get out of his head, and Don Toliver slides in with a melodic verse that name drops Waikiki and keeps the late night theme going. It is grungy, it is romantic, and it sounds like nothing else Offset has put out this year.
The Video
The visual comes from directors Mikey Rare and SheShe Pendleton, the same team behind Offset’s recent videos. Offset and Don Toliver play high rollers taking over a dark, luxurious casino, with a Crown Royal Marquis tie in.
Third Time Around
This is the third time these two have linked up. Offset and Quavo jumped on Don Toliver’s “Had Enough” back in 2019, and Offset brought Toliver back for “WORTH IT” in 2023, produced by ChaseTheMoney and Heavy Mellow, off Set It Off.
It has been a big month for the Houston singer. Toliver is also all over Drake’s HABIBTI (FOMO) deluxe, including “Solar Eclipse,” which is projected to debut in the top 5 of the Hot 100.
